“Yours is the day, yours also the night” (Psalm 74:16).
Whatever the circumstance or situation, however badly our hopes have been dashed upon the rocks of this-worldly futility, God is there. He is over all, both night and day. Nothing evil takes place in the darkness that he does not see. Nothing beautiful emerges at dawn without the Lord’s watching faithfulness.
Night and day met at Jesus’s death. The most sinister evil humanity could muster nailed him to a tree, spat on him, flogged him, murdered him. And yet, the Lord meant even that darkest of moments for the good of his people. And when Sunday dawned, so did his salvation (74:12).
No matter how dark our nights may be in this life, the Day of the resurrection shines over it. “Yours is the day, yours also the night.” To see the Day, we have only to look up.
