“For you, O Lord, have made me glad by your work; at the works of your hands I sing for joy” (Psalm 92:4).
You know what it’s like. You stand before an incredible work of art, hear the most breathtaking music, see the perfect pair of pants on the rack, hear the roar of a race car’s engine. And as your senses soak in the beauty of this thing, you lose yourself for a moment in wonder and awe.
Someone made this! What must have gone through their minds when they put the finishing touches on their masterpiece, when the designer or artist or musician presented their work to the watching world for the first time? What inspired them to make it? How much talent and skill it must have taken to create something so beautiful.
That is what the psalmist experiences when he looks at the created world. He sees all that God has done in the natural world and can’t help but “sing for joy.” The work of the Lord makes a smile creep across the psalmists face.
Living as God’s child is living alive! It’s walking through life, enjoying the beauty of the world around you and being able to say, “My Dad made that!” You may never meet your favorite artist or designer or musician, but your own Father made Yosemite, the Grand Canyon, the Pacific Ocean and the Côte d’Azur. The trees on your street, Golden Gate Park, the way the fog hangs over the Bay, and the sunset over Ocean Beach—your Dad made it all.
God’s work makes us glad, makes us sing. Let your Heavenly Father give you joy today.
